As of December 16, 2019, data from all four space weather instruments on GOES-16 (EXIS, MAG, SEISS, and SUVI) are operationally available to the NWS Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC). This important achievement marks years of hard work from many parties, especially from instrument scientists and software developers in the CIRES Space Weather group working at the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI). GOES-16 was launched on November 19, 2016. Instrument scientists within the group have led calibration and validation (calval) of the satellite, while software engineers have been developing the Level 2 algorithms to process data into a useful format for SWPC forecasters.

The group continues working towards operational use of GOES-17 data, which was launched on March 1, 2018.
